This coffee is exceptional. Espresso dark and deep yet smooth. My only other comment is that this should properly be called an Italian roast as this is clearly beyond a French Roast.

Without a doubt, this is the smoothest whole bean coffee I've ever tasted. I don't know what biodynamic means, but it's delicious! For a French roast, it's not that bold. I use a Mr Coffee grinder (which I've reviewed in the past) and a Melitta single-serving drip cone. It's a basic setup. But everyone who's tried it RAVES about it. Even the cream&sugar crowd can drink this black. This is the perfect coffee to get non-coffee drinkers hooked. It tastes almost as good as it smells. The beans have an oily sheen. I don't know if that's some sort of edible sealant to keep the volatile flavor oils from wafting away, or if the beans are so full of flavor it's exuding from the surface. Either way, this is a winner. I haven't subscribed yet because I'd like to try the other Cafe Altura products before I commit to just one, but this one's certainly at the top of my list. I've ordered this one 4x already. I've noticed this thing has gotten pricier since the first time I bought it. I got two 32oz bags the first time appeared on Amazon. That's okay though. It's still cheaper than Trader Joe's and definitely tastier.

Customer Review: Better than Senseo pods
Pod coffee is as good as the pods used. Senseo pods are good and widely available but Baronet taste better. Baronet are also fair-trade and organic, Senseo are not. The automatic order option guarantees I get the best price and never run out of pods (unimaginable).
Customer Review: Excellent coffee when prepared well.
It took me about 4 days to figure out the best way to prepare this coffee in my Senseo machine. These pods are too large to fit in the single pod holder in my machine, but they make delicious coffee using one pod in the 2-pod holder. But, the double pod holder needs to be hot and wet, and the pod wet with a bit of hot water, in order to make a strong cup of coffee. I think it's important for the pod to be wet and squeezed into the pre-heated holder. I say all this because it took me awhile to figure out, and I knew to keep trying because the other reviews of these pods are so positive. If your coffee isn't delicious with the pod, or it's a little weak, it's not the coffee but the machine. The coffee is excellent.

Customer Review: Perhaps a bad bag?
I don't know if I got a bad bag, but the beans that I received smelled extremely funky. Almost fishy. The coffee that they made was decent, certainly better than I would have expected given the smell of the un-ground beans. Nevertheless, I threw most of the package away, as I couldn't stand the smell of the beans, even when only semi-conscious in the morning (before drinking coffee, of course).

Smooth, rich, flavorful! The beans are so rich and dark they almost disappear in the predawn moonlight except. I can wake up just smelling them grinding each morning. I tried a wide variety of coffes in my life but this is hands down my favorite! If I can't get it, the other Altura blends are almost as good.

Customer Review: Expensive coffee, poor packing
Illy can be celebrated as the creator of coffee pods, the best way to get a decent espresso (but not a great espresso)without being a full fledge barista and a US$ 10.000 espresso machine. Illy are the most expensive pods, however they come in a metal can packed in bulk. Other coffee pods come individually packed in sealed bags with nitrogen atmosphere, but Illy packs them in bulk. Customer Review: Some really good! Some really yuk!
The sampler is a great idea. But, be prepared--some of the pods are awful. Since, they only ship two of each flavor, you couldn't pull a double shot and then share it with anyone for comparison. Sometimes, I like to sit and taste expresso with a friend--almost like a wine tasting with espresso. Also, the shipping cost was really high! It is an interesting way to try different brands, but keep careful notes.

Product looked and smelled great - however, it was not clear from the description that this product is for non-ESE pod machines. I like the idea of organic and US source, this just didn't work for me.
Customer Review: Inferior Coffee
Aloha Island Coffee Company Bonzai Pipeline Dark Roast is a very mediocre, insipid coffee, rather acidic for a dark roast. The beans are of unknown origin, but if there are any Kona beans in this anonymous mix, they must be the ones other roasters threw out as it doesn't even vaguely taste like Kona. Actually, Aloha Island Coffee Co. isn't even in Hawaii, it's located in Santa Ana, CA, an area not exactly known for great coffee. The coffee is extremely overpriced for the poor quality you get, which is why I gave it one star, and you would be better off buying some of the better brands commonly sold in supermarkets at about one-third the price. I ordered the 2-8 oz bags, but I couldn't even make it through the first one and have thrown the second in the garbage. I would never buy anything from Aloha Island Coffee company again.

Customer Review: Great coffee when fresh
This coffee is one of my favorites especially when the bag is freshly opened; however, it takes a while to go through two pounds of coffee. It looses some of the flavor over time, but regardless it remains pretty darn good. I just wish I could find a way to keep it really fresh. I have tried freezing it in an airtight zip-lock bag, refrigerating in an airtight zip-lock bag, and storing at room temp in an ceramic airtight jar. Regardless, this coffee is a amazing (especially when brewed with a french press), and I highly recommend it.

This coffee is fantastic. Great, bold flavor with very oily beans. This is the first Altura coffee I have tried, but I will definitely be going back and trying the different types of beans they offer. Can't go wrong with the Peruvian dark.

Customer Review: The Best
After trying many other whole bean and ground decafs, 8 O'clock is by far the best. It tastes like a good non-decaf. I drink my coffee black without sugar and am pleased that the 8 O'clock is never bitter and never has that burnt taste that many coffees do. It took a bit of experimenting to find the right coffee to water ratio, but that is not unusual. The reasonable price is a bonus. I always used to buy the 8 O'clock at my local supermarket, but they no longer carry it. After trying some other decafs and finding them not up to the 8 O'clock standard, I looked online. I am delighted to be able to buy this excellent coffee at a reasonable price.
Customer Review: The BEST all round decaf...and yes, cheaper at the grocery
Even here, it's cheap, and rich, and amazing. I was checking here for availability because it isn't carried by most of the stores around here (even the ones that have lots of Eight O'Clock types). I look far and wide and pay an extra buck or two because it's a really rich coffee, better than ANY decaf I've had. Most decafs seem to be inferior beans, or they get ruined in the process, or they are overroasted for my taste. Starbucks Sumatra decaf, for example, is a really good coffee, but a bit charcoal tasting for me. It's hard to find lighter roasts, and when I do, they are weak or bland or even "bad" tasting. This stuff, like the regular Columbian decaf, is great stuff. By the way, the blue back decaf (non-Columbian) is not so good. This brown bag Columbian is far far better. Yum

My guess is that the other reviewer used an inexpensive machine, just not the right amount or maybe a bad bag. It happens - we have all been there. Anyway, we were very happy with the taste - especially considering the cost. Once we got the settings right on the Gaggia, every espresso and latte has been great. Blows Starbucks away.

As another review notes, the product description doesn't say these are smaller pods that are only 72% the size of a normal single serving pod for a Senseo. The water blows right past the pod... would be great if you enjoyed coffee-scented warm water! I hope to have a good experience with the return, but I opened a box and wasted a pod discovering the facts.

Customer Review: Disappointed.
I recieved these as a brithday gift. I was really excited because I love chocolate covered coffee beans, and I received 6 bags. After eating a few, though, I'm disappointed. The chocolate is good but it's a moot point if the beans are too hard. They don't have a good coffee flavor, because you can't chew them up. And your mouth and teeth are left with little bean shards to finish.

We got a few bags of these in Costa Rica so we did not have the shipping problems another reviewer had. As far as the actual dark chocolate covered coffee beans go, these are wonderful! Probably the best we have had, and we are in the Pacific Northwest, so we have a lot to choose from. We also got the chocolate covered - cacao nibs, hazelnuts, and almonds, and all are great with rich dark chocolate. Not waxy, grainy, or greasy.

Customer Review: Delicious
I just got this today from bedbathandbeyond (they have them in store), and its very sweet and pretty delicious. Much stronger than I expected, and honestly Id prefer this over the coffee shop. Next time I make a cup i will actually set it to a larger cup to take away just a little bit of the intensity and sweetness, or maybe add some milk to the cup ahead of time. Overall this exceeded my expectations.
