Lavazza produces the best espresso beans according to me. Someone was complaining against the quality - may be the packs that you bought were too old and yes- generally espresso does upset sensitive stomach, that does not indicate bad quality of coffee beans. I am from Europe and can say that Starbucks coffee is not to my taste, I have to agree with Mr.Hernandes. The bitter taste that they achieve has blends and notes of something quite different than the normal espresso bitterness.

Customer Review: Good coffee, but 26.3 ounces, not 32.
This coffee was very good, being at least the equal of the best of the 7 different coffees I have tried thus far here from Amazon. It was very fresh, had excellent aroma, and produced a very nice brew in my French press. Upon receipt of the coffee I noticed that the bag was nowhere near full. I have had other coffees come in less-than-full bags, but this one seemed to be way off. Since I sell merchandise online myself, I have an accurate postal scale. The "2 pound" bag came in at almost 6 ounces less than a full 32, including the weight of the bag. From previous orders from Amazon, other coffees seem to be based on the "as delivered" weight, not on some sort of weight prior to roasting. The bag itself did not have a breather, so it is hard to imagine that almost 20% of the weight was lost in shipping. Don't know what happened here but the result is that I feel I payed almost 20% more for the beans than the advertised price. I am curious if others have noticed this from this company. I would like to think that I simply got a careless shipment and not a care-less policy.

I've tried a lot of k-cups since getting my Keurig brewer. I prefer the "bold" and darker blends. This one is one I always try to keep in stock. I find it to be a bit smoother than say Dark Magic, Kenya AA, Double Black Diamond, Emeril's Big Easy Bold or some of the Timothy's like Rainforest Espresso or Midnight Magic (all are pretty good though). Look elsewhere for a better price though. You can get 48 for $29 shipped on Green Mountain's own site. Too bad Amazon doesn't offer one of those great 50 packs they have for Coffee People or Timothy's for Green Mountain.

OK, my Keurig came with 90 Kcups about 8 varieties. I thought none tasted as good as I could make and wondered if I had made a mistake. I LOVE COFFEE but until the Espresso Blend I was disappointed. Rich, smooth and Bold. I drink it with milk and put a good amount in and it is nice and strong and perfect. I used to live in NYC and became accustomed to great coffee. I no longer feel the need to keep searching for k-cups to match my perfect cup of coffee. I am drinking a cup now.Try it.

Customer Review: A bit "Hit or Miss"
I have been chasing that perfect cup for some time now, lately through Amazon by buying and splitting the bags with a neighbor. I use a press, the neighbor goes drip. The first bag of this Sumatra was the best consumer coffee that either of us had ever found. It shipped to us extremely fresh, still working off gas in the bag and foaming in my press pot. The aroma from the bag was strong and wonderful and it carried through to the press and into the cup. Bag #1 was easily the best coffee either of us had ever brewed. The second bag was quite a disappointment, not stale but also not really fresh, with only marginal aroma in the bag and not even recognizable as coffee in the cup. However, even at that the flavor still matched up close to our previous best finds here at Amazon- about the Fogbuster level. We decided to give it another try, and bag #3 was somewhere in between, but still only a pretender when compared to that first bag. One interesting thing about this coffee, which I have experienced with no other: I am single and make a press first thing in the morning. Then (coffee connoisseurs stop reading now) warm additional cups up in the microwave as the morning goes on. Something about this coffee takes the microwave rewarming far, far better than any other coffee I have ever used. I don't understand why, but it does- all the way into the evening if need be (OK, I'll admit it, sometimes even overnight). Single guy, what can I say, but that is a significant bonus for me. My shipments come from Lexington, KY. I assume Amazon has warehouses around the country. Part of my fresh/not-so-fresh problem might be due to the volume consideration and turnaround at that particular warehouse. We have decided to give the Sumatra one more try but I feel we will more than likely be moving along after bag #4. I'll let you know how it goes.

Customer Review: Tastes better than instant, less work than a coffee pot
These single packs are nice and convenient. Other brands make them, like Maxwell House also sold at Amazon, but I prefer the Folgers for now. They work just like a teabag, you place them in hot water in your mug and let them steep. The amount of time to steep or dunk is relative to your what you like in flavor, simply let it sit longer for stronger coffee. For some reason, both this brand and others have chose to place 19 in a box, weird that they do not round off to 20. The bags are cordoned off in separate containers to stay fresh longer. While I will still use my regular pot for camping as it is part of the experience, I can see where this would be great for lighter weight backpacking, the flavor is better than instant for sure and not as messy.

As of today, Jan. 25, 2004 Amazon is offering this product from two different merchants at two different prices with two different names. Possibly the confusion comes from the fact the the name of the product is partially in Italian, and every merchant made up its own English name. Anyway, the following two are the same, just buy the cheapest 1. Illy Roasted Espresso Coffee Beans -- Merchant: Goodman's 2. illy Whole Bean Espresso, Normale -- Merchant: CaffeSolo Here is my review of the product itself. Among coffees in this price range, I haven't been able to find anything better. I am an italian who came to US 6 years ago (I think it is relevant to readers) and Illy is an italian brand. I claim my review does not have any shallow food-nationalism bias, but it might well be that I am influnced by my upbringing. This coffee is roasted much less than what americans are used to think as the "italian roast", Illy calls it "medium roast". It is roasted less than ANY Starbucks coffee I tried so far. The roasting type can be seen by comparing the colour of the powder. This particular Illy is lighter in color and it is bit reddish. It's color is close to the color of cocoa poweder (I mean cocoa powder processed with alkali). The roasting is key for me because I dislike any coffee which tastes of burnt -- Illy does not. It's flavor is marked enough to fully come through even when drank with milk in a 50% coffee 50% milk proportion. It actually still tastes of coffee in this proportions. Some people prefer Illy Dark Roast (the silver and black) to make espresso, but I prefer the flavor of Medium Roast even to make espresso. I prepare it with a stove-top espresso machine, such as Bialetti. This particular tin I am reviewing contains coffee beans, an identical tin (the lid is different) containing grounded coffee (same blend) also exists. The grounded one is grounded having in mind stove-top esperesso machine, which is a powder barely coarser than the one for true electric espresso machines (it can be used in them too) and much finer than grounds for dripping machines. As you probably know, coffee should be drank very soon after roasting. In general this is true. Illy is one of the leaders in vacuum paking, so the shelf-life of its coffee is very long. The metal can is not just for beauty: it does keep the air out better then bags. Still, you don't want to buy it from a merchant who had it on its shelf forever. All in all, there is better coffee around, but I can't find any better for this price either for delivery on the internet or from small roasters who roast their own coffee in the New Haven area.

It is pretty good. Not spectacular, but very good, smooth, low acidity, medium roast with caramel or toffee notes and slightly sweet. Like most decaf coffees, this coffee is somewhat bland. It is an unfortunate part of the decaffeination process that a lot of flavor goes down the drain along with the caffeine. I hope someday this problem gets resolved for those of us who love coffee but not the jitters! I'm glad it is organic. I only buy organic coffees after I found out that pesticides that have long been outlawed in the US are commonly in use in the third world countries where coffee is grown and they are used on coffee. But thankfully, not this one. If you are looking for an everday coffee that is better than Folgers, you have found it! It isn't an earth-shattering coffee. You have to use much more per cup than a regular coffee, just like most decafs, and the flavor is better than most if you like a medium roast (if you like dark roasts, keep looking!. It can actually be hard to find a medium roast in a decaf. Probably because they are trying to find a way to get more flavor into the end result by roasting it a bit darker. A solid, every day coffee at a very competitive price for organic. The only comparible price for organic decaf is Trader Joe's--however they only carry darker roasts. This satisfies my desire for my favorite kind of coffee without worry about dangerous pesticides.

Customer Review: Oily beans killed my unit!
I got 3 good years out of this grinder, but there are more minuses than positives. It is consistent, easy to use and very inexpensive compared to many others. The immediate downside for me is that you have to hold the power button on; very noisy compared to others; and this unit is easily killed by fresh, oily beans. I have ground dozens of batches of inexpensive, store-bought beans with no problems. I did 3 batches of freshly, French roasted beans and the unit died. Cleaning & rescue proved to be too difficult to justify more hours, so it is headed for the junk pile! I have had a DeLonghi unit that's much easier to use and is twice as old and a smaller foot print, but i will have to beg to get it back. Using a blade grinder on the oily beans is my only choice now. Actually, I use a French press for brewing and a blade grinder is sufficient, imho.

This grinder is just a bad product all around, except for its looks. The grinder is slow; the receptacle slips off its base and has to be simultaneously held in while holding down the side activation button; the coarseness indicator wheel is unreliable; grinder creates excess dust; narrow delivery chute requires cleaning and inspection much too often; receptacle's flimsy cover falls off easily and spillage is way more common than with any other grinder I have ever used; grinder requires constant agitation or tapping in order to get beans to feed into burrs at constant rate. Even at $25, the hassles of a regular, slow dusty mess every morning make this a DO NOT BUY. I have had other Black and Decker home repair products that worked great, but this little number is a bad egg.

Customer Review: Ã…wesome Coffee!!!
This coffee is Awesome!!! We have been a pre-ground couple for years. We finally decided to dive in and try the whole bean group. This is such a difference and so damn good it is unbelievable. We don't know why we waited to go with the whole bean flavor... We bought the medium and dark blends and they are both phenomenal!!! This is a great company to deal with. We highly recommend them to all!!
Customer Review: Nectar of the Heavens
I drink tea every day, but I do enjoy the occasional cup of coffee every once in a while. Because of that, I can justify paying premium prices for good coffee. Let me tell you, this coffee is worth its weight in gold. I had actually purchased the coffee without realizing that the beans were whole-bean. I quickly purchased a grinder. The grinder came four days after the coffee did. If I had known how good this coffee was beforehand, those four days would have been torture. Mind you, I'm basing this review on the fact that I have only brewed one pot so far, but one pot was all it took. This coffee is amazingly silky smooth and doesn't leave a harsh aftertaste like other coffees. It's a little on the light side, so if you like your coffee strong, I'd recommend about 1.5-2 rounded tablespoons per cup. I am definitely a believer in Kona Coffee now. I will be buying more of this in the future for myself and as gifts, though I'll probably use it before I have a chance to give it out.
