Guatemala Panchoy Valley Coffee Beans Reviews

The dense shade, combined with the region’s shallow water table, produces a distinct microclimate within the coffee fields.

Guatemala Panchoy Valley Coffee Beans Reviews

Rich volcanic soil, low humidity, lots of sun and cool nights characterize the Antigua region.

The valley is dominated by the magnificent Acatenango and Fuego volcanoes.

Every once in a while, Fuego one of Guatemala's three active volcanoes adds a fresh dusting of mineral rich ash to Antigua's soil.

The cool temperatures at night and the warm sunlight create a perfect microclimate to produce fine coffee.

When the weather and other conditions are perfect in the Valley of Panchoy (Antigua) for harvesting, the valley comes to life with laborers who come to help harvest the coffee beans.

Even though harvesting by machine is faster and cheaper, harvesting by hand yields more beans than harvesting by machine, because no unripe beans are inadvertently stripped from the plants.

Also, an expert coffee bean picker can fill up to six baskets per day. They're typically paid by each basket of beans that they collect, and unlike machines, you can instruct them to pick only ripe beans.

The first pickings usually start in mid January, Red cherries are delivered for the farmers own use for wet processing and drying.

Guatemala Coffee Beans Buyers Guide

The loads of cherries start to arrive at mid-morning, throughout late into the evening. The harvested coffee is promptly wet processed, fermented in the concrete tanks, washed and set on the patios for drying.

Once the coffee is dry, reaching an ideal moisture content, it is bagged and stored on ventilated warehouses to rest for 45 to 60 days before consumers see the first deliveries of this special coffee.

Guatemalan Antigua coffee is described as having a full and velvety body, a rich and lively aroma, and a fine acidity.
