French Press coffee is the coffee lovers world wide mostly agreed upon best
equipment for brewing coffee. With this coffee maker the full flavor of the oils
in the coffee beans is one hundred percent preserved delivering your prized
drink in a creamy and delicious brew.
Basically this Coffee Maker is a tall glass fitted with a
piston-like pump moving within the cylinder and a filter.
The brewing process is simple and lasting just a few minutes. Grounded coffee
and boiling water are mixed in the tall glass then pressed down, and your coffee
ready to drink is left at the top.
These coffee makers are also called, a 'press pot' a 'plunger' or a cafetiere.
One of the advantages of good French Press is that you can manually
set the water temperature and brewing time resulting in a delicious cup of
coffee designed to your individual taste.
Coffee can be brewed in several ways:
- Turkish coffee – boiling
- Italian Espresso – pressure brew
- Drip coffee – One cup drip coffee machines
- Coffee steeping – Soaking the beans and extracting the brew
The French Press uses steeping and experts say it is the best
method to extract the oils and keep the natural aroma and taste of the coffee
beans.
Most high-end coffee makers use conical grinders, because these
grinders rotate at low speeds in the area of five hundred revolutions per
minute. This keeps the grinding temperature ideally low, while faster grinders
will heat-up too much and eliminate most of the flavor of the oils in the beans.
These machines are suitable for any type of coffee, but some
connoisseurs prefer dark roasted coffee with a full body and medium to low
acidity. Among their favorites are the French roast bean like Tanzania Peaberry,
Sumatra or Ethiopian Yirgacheef.
To ensure that no coffee particles will pass through the filter mesh screen, a
coarse grind is suggested to better separate the brew from the grinds.
How to make coffee with a these coffee makers:
- Pour two table spoons of coarse ground coffee into coffee maker
- Six ounces of water
- Boil the water
- Pour the water over coffee grounds in the press
- In two to four minutes, your delicious brew should be ready to drink.
- Press down the plunger and pour the rich, aromatic liquid into your cup.
This brew made is best savored black (no sugar, milk
or cream).
