Cone shaped filters are harder to clean, are less prone to spillage, can use
fine grinds and the water remains in contact coffee grinds longer. While a
basket filter will make more coffee, it requires larger grinds and allows the
water to remain in contact with the coffee grinds shorter than a cone filter. The advantage the basket filters have is that they filter the water more evenly. However, they
require bigger grinds.
They are inexpensive, disposable, no messy clean-ups and they are the average
Joe favorite filter. That is not to say they are the best. Some experts
complaint that the paper soaks most coffee’s natural oils, resulting in a loss
of coffee taste and aromas.
But for some you can't beat use it and throw it away.
Cloth Coffee Filters
These are hard to clean coffee filters, which makes them unpopular.
The coffee grinds stick to the cloth and you have to struggle a bit with rinsing
out all the grinds, but they are durable and pay for themselves in the long run
besides they are environment
friendly.
Coffee connoisseurs think the extra work is well worth it, because unlike paper,
the coffee’s natural oils seep through in both cloth and metal filters.
Metal Coffee Filters
Made of stainless steel which makes them Durable. Light to clean in comparison
with the cloth filters, however they still require good care and a good clean up
per use.
This is a favorite for large families or for people who brew multiple cups at
one time, such as big families, offices, or coffee shops. A popular choice of
metal filters is the My K Cup by Keurig a reusable filter. If you have two
or more metal filters you can switch them as you finish brewing with one and
start brewing your next cups immediately, leaving the cleaning and washing for
later.
Gold And Gold Toned Coffee Filters
These excellent filters are quite expensive and cost up to $25. There are two
kinds of filters using gold - Swiss gold and gold toned.
These filters are called gold, because they are actually made of gold!
The Swiss gold filter is gold plated with 24 karat gold. From the various filter materials gold best retains the
coffee’s natural oils and flavors.
The gold toned coffee filters cost up to $12. Their base metal is stainless steel and treated
to avoid the metallic taste from going into your brew.
Both of these gold coffee filters are very durable and easy to clean, ideal
people with fast paced life styles.
The Brita and some other coffee maker manufactures like Braun for example use
the popular water filter brand Brita.
The charcoal water filter is another public favorite and removes up to 80% of Chlorine that
is found in your drinking water. Among other manufacturers Braun and Kitchenaid
use charcoal water filters in some of their
coffee maker models.
