Coffee Beans Canephora Review
Characteristics:
Coffee Beans Canephora, more commonly known as Coffea Robusta, is native to Africa.
This plant grows to a maximum of 20 feet
tall while most plants range from 10 to
13 feet tall.
This plant has medium sized cherries and
produces oval shaped beans. Unlike many
varieties, this coffee plant has leaves
that arc down to protect the delicate
beans during rain and wind. This alone
makes the Coffea Canephora plant easier
to care for than many other plants. It
also makes the price of Coffea Canephora
cheaper than other coffees.
Where it is Planted:
This plant thrives in tropical
conditions, although it does require
partial shade. It is a very hardy plant.
However, Coffee Canephora isn’t able to
tolerate freezing temperatures.
The root system of this plant is very
shallow, which makes it ideal to grow in
a greenhouse. It also enables coffee
growers in any climate a chance to grow
Coffea Robusta, if the greenhouse
conditions are appropriate.
How it Tastes:
Coffea Robusta has a very distinct
earthy flavor and twice as much caffeine
as Coffea Arabica. It has been described
as an almost burnt taste. This coffea is
best suited to coffee drinkers who take
pleasure in a very strong coffee.
Blending with Other Beans:
Because Coffee Canephora is considered
inferior to Coffea Arabica, it is most
often used as filler for other coffees.
This coffee bean has properties that
make it form ‘crema’ in espresso and
instant coffee.
For coffee aficionados, this blend is
most often enjoyed with the addition of
a less flavorful coffee, like Coffea
Liberica. The flavors offset each other
in a way that offers the drinker a
balanced drink.
